Reduction in Missing Bags!
This just in, it is apparently the second consecutive year that the industry has significantly reduced the number of bags mishandled worldwide. Last year there were 2.2 billion air passengers and 25 million bags mishandled which is down 23% from 2008 and more than 40% down from 2007. (data from Travel Industry Today)
Lets face it, the usual reason you lose your luggage is when you have tight transfers. Both times I have lost my luggage was because of this reason. A small feeder carrier heading into big airports with a short transfer time (Frankfurt and Amsterdam if you are curious).
So the moral of the story, outside of the greater efficiency of the industry as a whole, is to plan ahead with transfers especially on your way to your destination. On the way home, I don’t really care. If they want to deliver my luggage the next day to my house, so be it!
